Batting Average and Runs per Game for 15 Teams

To illustrate the use of StatCrunch in studying relationships, we load TSUB Case 5.1 which contains the batting average and runs scored per game for 15 teams.

Scatterplot

To construct a scatterplot of the two variables, we select Scatter Plot from the Graph menu.

We select AVG to be the X variable and R.G as the Y variable and choose Calculate. You should see the following scatterplot.

Scatterplot with Fitted Line

If we want to see the least-squares line, then we repeat the previous command, but we Overlay polynomial order 1, and again select Calculate.

See Equation of Fitted Line

If we want to find the equation of the least-squares line, we select the option Stat -> Regression -> Simple Linear, and select Calculate.

Again we select the X variable to be AVG, the Y variable to be R.G.
